  • Summary

    This position can be located in our Palo Alto, San Francisco, or Chicago office.  This position will provide national practice support and Northern California Regional Support. 


    The Business Development and Marketing Coordinator works closely with the Senior Business Development and Marketing Manager to support the Emerging Companies and Venture Capital and Technology and IP Transactions practices, as well as the Agribusiness and Technology Industry Groups. The Coordinator is involved in a variety of projects including:

    • Assisting in preparing pitches;
    • Organizing, supporting and executing on firm-sponsored and third party programs and sponsorships;
    • Update and maintain marketing collateral, including practice group descriptions, and attorney biographies;
    • Track and update practice and industry group experience lists;
    • Coordinating drafts of directory submissions;
    • Assisting with any other projects that raise the profiles of the practices and the office; and
    • Support firm-sponsored events as needed.

    S/He takes an active role in learning about these legal groups and developing the groups' and the firm's internal knowledge about its clients and business. The Business Development and Marketing Coordinator also works closely with the other Business Development and Marketing Managers and Specialists in different offices to coordinate marketing efforts. It is essential that the Coordinator is a self-starter, works well in a team environment, exhibits good judgment, has excellent verbal and written communication skills and works well in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    In coordination with the Business Development and Marketing Manager and the Director of Business Development and Marketing:

    • Helps to develop and implement systems to acquire and manage representative experience lists; facilitates maintenance of experience databases. Coordinates with colleagues in international offices to foster and expand facility with experience database.  
    • Assists Business Development and Marketing Managers and/or lawyers in the preparation of client proposals and pitches, through formal RFP response processes as well as on an ad hoc basis.
    • Works with Business Development and Marketing Manager and others to help maintain library of materials for pitches, proposals and RFP responses.
    • Updates practice information on the Firm’s website and intranet site, as well as coordinating occasional republication in external venues.
    • Drafts practice group content, lawyer biographies and client presentations to further develop the Firm’s business development opportunities.
    • Helps conduct research on clients/prospective clients, industry research and occasional competitive intelligence to develop knowledge about our clients, their industries and legal needs.
    • Assist in the organization, execution, support and follow up for firm-sponsored and third party programs and sponsorships. This would include:
      • Collaborating with creative services team on the design, layout, and production of event invitations for external and internal audiences, promotional materials, advertisements and, when necessary, PowerPoint presentations and client proposals.
      • Preparing event communications from invitation development to follow-up and other internal and external correspondence.
      • Develop and maintain invitation and mailing lists in InterAction (CRM).
      • Coordinate event logistics and oversee preparation and production of materials and presentations.
    • Maintain and update calendar of events and speaking engagements.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Education and/or Experience:


    • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited four year college or university
    • A minimum of two years of business development and/or marketing related experience
    • Demonstrated PC experience required:  MS Word, PPT, Excel, Outlook, InterAction (or other CRM program)
    • Occasional travel between Palo Alto and surrounding areas for events
    • Flexibility to staff evening or early morning events        



    • Law firm or professional services experience
    • Working knowledge of customer relationship management and other databases
    • Familiarity with ranking organizations, i.e. Chambers, league tables, etc.
