  • Summary

    The Data Extraction Specialist will support the use of innovative data extraction technology, and in particular, natural language processing machine learning contract analysis technology at the Firm. This role will be based on our Chicago office and report to the Firm’s Director of Knowledge Management.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Develop and maintain a collection of data extraction use cases, including training data, to be used to benchmark natural language processing data extraction tools on a consistent basis. These use cases will include some that relate to the substantive practice of law and some that relate to the administration of the Firm.
    • Maintain a current awareness of the natural language processing data extraction tool market with a view to identifying those tools that merit evaluation by the Firm.
    • Serve as a point of contact with product vendors and with the Firm’s technical staff and procurement department with respect to data extraction tools.
    • Coordinate with product vendors to manage updates, upgrades and other changes.
    • Lead data extraction tool evaluation projects.
    • Lead data extraction tool deployment and adoption projects.
    • Serve as a Firm resource to help attorneys and staff match the best available data extraction tool for their particular use case and actively guide them in their use of that tool to address that use case.
    • Collect and analyze usage and other system metrics to recommend changes and enhancements based on the data.
    • Perform other duties necessary and essential to support the Firm's knowledge management goals.

    Education and/or Experience:

    Required:

    • Bachelor’s degree from four-year College or university, or equivalent work experience.
    • Minimum of three years of experience in a law firm, corporate legal department or professional services environment working with practice-related information and processes.
    • Experience with one or more natural language processing machine learning contract analysis tools such as Kira, Luminance, iManage Extract, eBrevia or Seal.
    • Demonstrated skills with MS Excel, MS Word and PowerPoint to synthesize and present data.
    • Excellent writing and proofreading skills.

     

    Preferred:

    • Experience in current technology trends.
    • Law firm experience, including an understanding of law firm structure and practice-specific terminology including transactions, litigation and regulatory areas.
