  • Summary

    This position is responsible for working with the Manager of Tax Accounting on tax compliance obligations of the Firm and the partners.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Assist with the Firm’s tax compliance, which includes but is not limited to federal, international, and state partnership returns, sales & use, commercial rent, business license/privilege tax, information returns, and nonresident withholding tax. This would consist of preparing workpapers, tax returns and issuing tax payments.
    • Prepare responses for inquires received related to all federal, international, state and local tax audits.
    • Reconcile and analyze general ledger transactions and accounts, using technical accounting guidelines to ensure that financial transactions are properly recorded.
    • Prepare memoranda to document and communicate tax issues.
    • Assist on entry-level tax research issues using IRS Tax Code, Tax Treaties, and other authoritative literature
    • Create, plan, and prepare spreadsheet-based analyses and reports; candidate must be able to design meaningful and useful spreadsheets used in business analysis and management.
    • Other general accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and special project responsibilities, as assigned.
    • Develop a strong understanding of Firm operations and the law firm industry, along with an appreciation for high quality customer service.

    Education and/or Experience:

    Required:

    • Bachelor’s degree
    • A minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a structured tax department (public or corporate)
    • Demonstrated technical and analytical skills within his/her professional background
    • Customer service oriented with excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Proficient knowledge of basic business applications such as Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word

    Preferred:

    • CPA designation or Master’s degree in Taxation
    • Prior experience with partnership tax/individual income tax/indirect taxes (sales/use or VAT/GST)/expatriate tax
