  • Summary


    The Senior Proposal Writing Manager serves as the primary authority for the delivery of outstanding written content within formal business development documents including Requests for Proposals (RFPs), Requests for Information (RFIs) and other similarly complex business development projects as needed. The Senior Proposal Writing Manager will be asked to both project manage coordinating RFP and RFI responses as well as provide support for special business development projects. The Senior Proposal Writing Manager must work in a highly collaborative environment, in which communication with key stakeholders and internal clients plays a key role.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Serves as the primary authority for the delivery of outstanding marketing content related to the firm’s most complex business development documents including the following:

    • Writes and edits new marketing content responsive to RFP or RFI questions;
    • Leads/project manages responses to RFP and RFIs;
    • Provides late-stage quality control on written material related to RFP and RFI responses;
    • Provides internal quality control related to drafts circulated to internal stakeholders;
    • Reviews existing materials and edits to maintain consistency;
    • Ensures that all materials related to responding to RFP, RFI or similar documents meet firm consistency standards;
    • Ensures that all materials related to responding to RFP, RFI or similar documents are excellent written representations of the Firm’s capabilities (i.e., putting the Firm in the best possible position to win work through the RFP process); and
    • Authors drafts of Executive Summaries – synthesizing information and data in a compelling narrative.


    Serves as lead and project manager for proposals and, as needed, other similarly complex projects including the following:


    • Collaborates with lead lawyer(s) to develop direction, themes, value propositions and other key messaging and cascade those themes to Marketing colleagues contributing to individual practice sections;
    • Coordinates with other departments such as Strategic Planning/Accounting, Office of General Counsel as well as other areas within Marketing such as Market Intelligence for requirements and data as necessary;
    • Collaborates with lead lawyer(s) and Strategic Planning/Accounting to develop proposed fee arrangements; and
    • Establishes and drives the larger team’s pace and momentum.


    Contributes to best practices, processes and supporting materials related to writing proposals and other similar business development communications.


    Coordinates project follow-up process to collect feedback, communicate lessons learned, trends and report results including tracking win/loss information and similar designations.


    Identifies opportunities to improve the process, tools and/or reference resources used to prepare proposals, presentations, pitches and other business development communications.

    Establishes processes and best practices for updating firm’s experience database and practice brochures with new matter information gathered in proposal response.

    Education and/or Experience:


    • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university; English or Journalism major a plus.
    • A minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience in legal/professional services, including 5 years of writing work experience.
    • Prior experience providing excellent writing and editing skills.
    • Direct project/production management (including authoring certain components) of RFPs in a professional services environment.
    • A thorough understanding of the proposal process in a professional services environment.
    • Strong computer skills, including demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Demonstrated experience managing projects with multiple stakeholders and under tight deadlines.
    • Superior communication and organizational skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to synthesize data and accurately capture in a persuasive narrative.
    • Flexibility to adjust hours to meet operating needs.



    • Advanced degree in a related field, strongly preferred.
    • Understanding of the role of business development within a large global law firm environment.
    • Deep understanding of myriad legal practice areas within the context of large global law firm.
    • Experience with databases, knowledge management systems and presentation software.
