  • Summary

    This position is responsible for working with the Manager of Tax Accounting on tax compliance obligations of the Firm and the partners.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Assist with indirect tax (Sales & Use/VAT/GST) compliance matters by preparing workpapers, tax returns and issuing tax payments.
    • Assist with the Firm’s tax compliance, which includes but is not limited to sales & use, property tax, insurance tax, foreign bank account filings and information returns.
    • Prepare responses for inquires received related to federal, international, state and local tax audits.
    • Reconcile and analyze general ledger transactions and accounts, using technical accounting guidelines to ensure that financial transactions are properly recorded.
    • Provide general administrative assistance as needed, including support for various Firm functional areas (payroll, retirement plans, fixed assets, partner accounting, human resources, billing, etc.).
    • Assist with entry-level tax research issues using IRS Tax Code, Tax Treaties and other authoritative literature.
    • Create, plan, and prepare spreadsheet-based analyses and reports; must be able to design meaningful and useful spreadsheets used in business analysis and management.
    • Develop a strong understanding of Firm operations and the law firm industry, along with an appreciation for high quality customer service.
    • Perform other general accounting, financial reporting, budgeting and special project responsibilities, as assigned.

    Education and/or Experience:

    Required:

    • Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in accounting or related field from an accredited college or university
    • Proficient knowledge of basic business applications such as Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Word
    • Customer service oriented with excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Demonstrated technical and analytical skills within his/her professional background

     Preferred:

    • Background in indirect taxes (sales/use or VAT/GST) or partnership tax
