  • Summary

    The Applications Architect will be the technical leader for Sidley’s Human Capital Management (HCM) initiatives. Working with other IT teams and HRIS, the Applications Architect evaluates the business and technical requirements to create an overall application architecture design for development and implementation in conjunction with the other IT and business teams. The Applications Architect provides overall direction on technical processes and products to support existing and new initiatives. This will include troubleshooting, designing, building and maintaining customizations, enhancements and integrations. This individual will be a key stakeholder in determining the strategic future of Sidley’s Human Capital Management systems – evaluating current application state, recommending improvements, automations and reduction in complexity, making the portfolio more efficient, more robust, user-friendly, etc. He/she will have additional responsibilities, which include technology ownership of any assigned projects.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Participates in the review of existing and creation of future architecture to ensure systems are optimized, high quality and robust.
    • Troubleshoots, improves and maintains the functionality of customizations and integrations with a variety of other systems including internal web portals, billing systems, payroll, third party applications and others.
    • Provides technical expertise in supporting and evaluating all the applications in the HCM portfolio, recommending technical and application releases in order to support HR needs, taking into account requirements of other IT initiatives such as intranet sites, financial systems, business intelligence and others. 
    • Ensures the technical solutions in the HCM space meets the business needs in the most effective, efficient, and technically appropriate way. Documents solutions from both a technical and business perspective.
    • Works with the IT Program Management team to develop HR technology strategy and roadmap by researching, evaluating and considering alternative technology options that are available in the market both independently and by management request. Formulates recommendations and implementation plans.
    • Ensures timely customer-focused responses to enhancement requests, troubles assistance, and other technical requests.
    • Selects, interviews, and collaborate with Sidley IT and external consultant resources to complete backlog of production work, enhancement requests and support issues. Guides the external resources to ensure a high standard of quality following IT best practices.
    • Works with the development team and Database Administrators (DBAs) on the proper utilization of the appropriate technologies (PeopleTools, SQR, Java, SQL, HTML, XML, batch scripting, SSIS, etc.) needed to meet the stated requirements.
    • Supports all testing needs. Works with the application team to evaluate, develop and coordinate unit test plans and works with the QA team to support system testing, helping stage test data, and helping to coordinate tests within and across various systems and platforms for large projects.
    • Provides thorough technical documentation including design and technical documentation for assigned projects. Follows standards for internal documentation of new or modified objects to facilitate future upgrades. May assist in writing on-line help manuals, user manuals, operations documentation and FAQs for specific software projects.
    • Other duties as required.

    Qualifications

    Education and/or Experience:

    Required:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, a related field, or equivalent work experience.
    • 5+ years of relevant work experience.
    • Demonstrated experience with Human Capital Management Application Architecture support for a large global organization.
    • Experience with batch scripting to perform automation and integrations.

     

    Preferred:

    • Experience or understanding of the following application architectures including table structure, design standards, protocols, and delivered objects.
    • HR /Benefit Management applications – PeopleSoft
    • Applicant tracking, Onboarding and Recruiting applications – iCIMS
    • Time and Attendance applications – Workforce, e-Days and cvMail
    • Enterprise Content Management – OnBase
    • Compensation and Salary Benchmarking – PayScale/MarketPay
    • LMS applications – University Site, LearnLive and Micron CE Manager
    • Performance Management applications - Pilat
    • Physical Security application
    • Experience with and understanding of PeopleTools (v8.5 or above).
    • Understanding of web administration (IIS), APIs and related technologies.
    • Previous experience and strong understanding of system development life cycles and strategic planning for future systems.
    • Previous experience in software evaluation, integration, testing and distribution.
    • Previous experience breaking down business processes into technology requirements.
