  • Summary

    The Docket & Court Services Managing Supervisor organizes the daily operations of the New York Docket & Court Services department. The Docket & Court Services Managing Supervisor oversees New York court filings and service of legal papers, calendars, litigation matters and enforces policies and protocols to minimize the risk of missed calendar/docket and filing deadlines.


    The preferred shift is 11am-7pm.

    Duties and Responsibilities


    • Coordinates docket activities and supervises workflow of New York Docket Department staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Firm’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; providing input for staff performance evaluations; addressing complaints, recommending disciplinary action, and assisting in resolving problems.
    • Performs essential department duties personally or through delegation/supervision of Docket Specialists.
    • Assists the Managing Attorney with management initiatives with respect to cross departmental opportunities.
    • Oversees and facilitates the processing of by-hand and electronic court filings in the state, federal, and appellate courts.
    • Reviews, for form and procedural compliance, documents served and filed by the Firm.
    • Assists with issues relating to service of process including engaging process servers.
    • Retrieves information from nationwide databases (e.g. CM/ECF/PACER, CourtLink, CourtExpress), court websites, and other online information sources.
    • Retrieves documents from the NY metropolitan area, state and federal courts and archives and interact with outside vendors to perform same, including, tracking such requests and following up to confirm requests are completed accurately.Exercises discretion and independent judgment while working under the general direction of the New York Managing Attorney, the Firm-wide Director of Docket & Court Services and according to established Firm policies and procedures.
    • Develops and maintains rapport with court personnel.
    • Researches and responds to incoming telephone and e-mail inquiries regarding court procedures, paper and electronic filings, judges standing orders. Assists with procedural research assignments and other administrative projects.
    • Monitors various department email boxes to assure that tasks and requests are handled on a timely basis.
    • Communicates docketing policies and procedures to support staff and lawyers and works with such individuals as necessary to address any associated problems or concerns.
    • Responsible for continuing to develop and update knowledge of court rules and procedures in multiple jurisdictions.
    • Updates change of firm affiliation for all new attorneys.
    • Maintains attorney password and login information for electronic filing jurisdictions.
    • Screens and reviews incoming court documents and office correspondence in order to calculate and capture relevant dates into the docketing system.
    • Ensures that lawyers are notified of filing deadlines and court appearances.
    • Proofreads computer audit trails of calendar entries to ensure accuracy.
    • Ability to act independently and make decisions in facilitating the administration of the Docket & Court Services Department when the Managing Attorney is unavailable.
    • Provides general and/or specialized docket reports upon request.
    • Other duties as required.

    Education and/or Experience:


    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
    • A minimum of 5 years of docketing experience
    • A minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience
    • Experience with rules-based calendaring software (e.g. CompuLaw, eDockets, CourtAlert).
    • Strong knowledge of federal, NY state and other local court systems and their associated rules, including electronic filing systems
    • Westlaw/Lexis and PACER research experience
    • Proficiency in the Microsoft Suite, particularly Word & Excel


    • New York State Law License or JD from accredited law school
    • New York State Notary Public License
    • Demonstrated ability to train others
    • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to organize and manage a large volume of detailed tasks.
