The Public Relations Specialist will be responsible for the execution of high-impact public relations plans that support the Firm’s global PR strategy. S/He must be a team player and an exceptional writer and verbal communicator. In addition, s/he must have strong organization and project management skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the implementation of public relations plans that are consistent with the Firm’s global PR strategy, organizational needs, business goals and the Sidley brand. 
  • Serves as the point person for one of the Firm’s PR agency partners to provide guidance around the appropriateness of individual media interview requests and direct the execution of media relations activities for select practices and regions.  
  • Evaluates media opportunities for potential conflicts in order to minimize risk to the Firm.
  • Distills complex messages to create written materials that are error free, on message and appropriate for the intended audience.
  • Guides Sidley lawyers and other key stakeholders within the marketing department and the broader Firm on PR best practices.
  • Proactively identifies opportunities for the Firm to earn positive media coverage by developing original story/pitch ideas.
  • Helps Sidley partners prepare for media interviews, providing guidance that demonstrates PR best practices for message development.
  • Identifies opportunities for lawyers to publish byline articles through independent research and conducts media outreach to secure such publishing opportunities.  
  • Directs the preparation of annual PR measurement reports for select practices and regions through determining appropriate content and key takeaways that drive the PR strategy for the coming year.
  • Assists with administrative projects including media coverage monitoring, tracking and reporting as needed.
  • Other duties as required.

Education and/or Experience:


  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Communications, English, Journalism or Public Relations
  • A minimum of 5 years of Public Relations experience
  • Excellent writing, organizational and project management skills


  • Prior law firm experience
  • Prior PR agency experience
