The Public Relations Assistant performs activities to support the Firm’s Public Relations team, including writing, pitching, research, media monitoring and PR program measurement.

Duties and Responsibilities


  • Assist with writing and editing press materials, including press releases and Firm news announcements.
  • Pitch story ideas to media to help lawyers secure opportunities to publish.
  • Review editorial calendars and proactively identify opportunities to position Sidley’s lawyers.
  • Monitor for media coverage and develop reports that measure the PR program’s effectiveness.
  • Perform various research projects as assigned.
  • Become familiar with Sidley’s social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn) and assist in providing news for, and posting news to, the sites as requested.
  • Handle administrative projects including scheduling, event/meeting coordination, invoice processing, etc.
  • Other projects as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing or a related field
  • A minimum of one year of experience in a public relations role
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft suite of products, with particular strength in Excel and PowerPoint
  • High-degree of comfort making phone calls to third-parties for research purposes
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines and priorities


  • Experience working with a media monitoring tool such as Cision
