The New Business Operations Analyst supports the new business operations of the CNB department with a focus on managing the transitions of partners that join or depart the Firm. S/he serves as an essential link among several departments to ensure the smooth transition. The incumbent will be the primary point of contact for Lateral Partners with respect to the onboarding of client files from the prior firm, and opening new clients and matters upon arrival. The incumbent will also work with departing partners to determine matters to be closed and/or transitioned. The incumbent will work closely with the Conflict Staff Attorney who conducted the conflicts clearance for the Lateral Partner (the “Lateral CSA”). The incumbent will prepare conflicts of interest reports that allow New Business Conflicts Staff Attorneys and billing attorneys to quickly and effectively identify compliance issues that need to be addressed prior to opening new business. Additionally, the New Business Operations Analyst plays a critical role in ensuring the standardization and integrity of the firm’s conflicts data and information.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with Recruiting team to coordinate the conflicts/risk aspects of the onboarding process for all new lateral hires, including Summer/Fall associates
  • Ongoing communication with new Lateral Partners, before and after joining the Firm, to determine initial and updated priorities regarding the opening of new clients and matters; develop and update a detailed spreadsheet to track the onboarding of each Lateral Partner’s clients and matters
  • Consult frequently with Lateral CSAs to review and update status of new Lateral Partner’s clients and matters; with the guidance of the Lateral CSA, assist the Lateral Partner in obtaining the waivers necessary to open new clients and matters
  • Monitor the transfer of the Lateral Partner’s electronic and physical files to the Firm; meet weekly with the Records Department to discuss file transfer issues
  • Create and maintain ethical walls in Intapp Wall Builder software for all new Lateral Partners
  • Consult with new Lateral Partners to structure and draft engagement terms for new clients
  • Serve as point of contact for the Lateral Partner’s secretary regarding any questions or problems in requesting conflicts searches and completing the New Business Form
  • Identify and escalate problems or delays promptly to the Lateral CSA, the Senior Manager/Conflicts and New Business or the Deputy General Counsel/Conflicts and New Business as appropriate
  • Work with departing Partners to determine clients or matters that should be closed, transferred to another partner, or transferred to the new firm
  • Create conflicts and due diligence reports that incorporate research and analysis from the firm’s internal conflicts database and external corporate research tools
  • Collaborate with conflicts staff lawyers to provide attorneys with clear and concise summaries of required steps to resolve and address any potential conflicts during the new matter approval process
  • Perform initial review of conflicts requests and work with secretaries and submitting attorneys to obtain clear and precise information
  • Perform various special projects and duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:


  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in a research or analytical role in a legal or professional services environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel



  • Conflicts or compliance experience at large law firm
  • Database Research Experience (including CapitalIQ, Hoovers/Dunn & Bradstreet or Bureau van Dijk)
  • Experience with Conflicts Search and/or Risk Management applications (including Elite, Intapp Open, and Intapp Wall Builder)
