The Desktop Engineer position within the Information Technology Department is responsible for all components of the desktop. This includes, but is not limited to, building and supporting the workstation operating system and image, design, maintenance and implementation of automated software distribution technologies, and overall packaging of applications.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Act as technical subject matter expert for all OS and Sidley workstation image technologies and issues.
  • Act as technical subject matter expert for all software distribution related technologies including Microsoft Configuration Manager, PowerShell, Flexera Admin Studio and AppPortal.
  • Perform daily administration functions for System Center Configuration Manager.
  • Design, document, support and troubleshoot the workstation patching process.
  • Troubleshoot challenging problems encountered with the PC environment and work with the internal application support teams to provide comprehensive solutions to these complex problems.
  • Work with the Desktop & Remote Access Manager to recommend, architect and implement any new automated software distribution initiatives.
  • Work with members of the Quality Assurance team to test automated software deployments prior to them being delivered to the end user.
  • Design, document, support and maintain the PC environment for all Firm-standard PC models, including, but not limited to, the following: BIOS, boot process, scripting, drivers, scheduled tasks, and local computer policy.
  • Develop, document, implement and maintain processes and procedures for workstation configuration and support.
  • Develop, document, implement and maintain automated scripts and tools for PC configuration and management.
  • Coordinate specific aspects of pre-imaging with hardware vendors.
  • Coordinate selection and configuration of standard and non-standard personal computer hardware.
  • Develop, maintain and document automated scripts for managing and configuring the PC environment.
  • Participate in professional organizations and attend conferences and/or seminars to keep abreast of technologies and trends.
  • Provide 24x7 On-Call support on a rotating basis
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:


  • Associate's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in Desktop technology across an enterprise.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience with personal computer operating systems including Windows 10.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience with imaging, packaging, and software distribution.
  • A thorough understanding of TCP/IP networking fundamentals, including DNS, DHCP, and IPv4.
  • Proven experience with Microsoft Active Directory and Active Directory Group Policies. Experience with troubleshooting and fixing software installation errors.
  • The ability to develop technical documentation for both technical and non-technical audience.



  • Microsoft certifications (MCSA or MCSE).
  • Knowledge of supporting Mac OSX in an enterprise environment.
