Summary

This position is open to Chicago, Dallas, or Washington D.C.

 

The Systems Developer assists with the development and maintenance of a dependable, secure technical infrastructure to support the delivery of department services. The Systems Developer will work with Litigation and Practice Support, IT, Project Managers, and outside vendors in order to meet Firm requirements. Duties include developing software to support automation of department services, creating documentation of department processes and software, troubleshooting issues, suggesting improvements, implementing and helping administer technology for the department, and assisting users with the use of department technology.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Application development for custom applications, business process automation, and department systems and applications
  • Client billable work including client source code review setup, and data analysis and reporting
  • SQL development
  • Troubleshooting user issues and outages and supporting department systems and applications
  • Duties related to storage include: Requests for new volumes, reviewing space reports, generate alerts, storage billing reporting, fix/maintain DFS roots, troubleshoot NTFS permissions, and perform data migrations
  • Respond to incoming queries in ticketing system for various operational and development requests
  • Act as a liaison with the IT department for dealing with department operational issues and troubleshooting
  • Document systems and processes, and update existing documentation as changes are implemented

Education and/or Experience:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with writing SQL queries and developing applications that rely on relational databases
  • Experience programming in Powershell. Experience with Bash, Perl, .NET, Visual Basic, Vbscript, Ruby, Javascript, ASP, or other object oriented languages and a willingness to learn Powershell will be considered
  • Data analysis and reporting skills in applications such as SQL, Excel, Access, etc.
  • Flexibility to work overtime on short notice and ability to travel if necessary
  • Ability to support users in various locations and work as part of a distributed support team
  • Ability to document and/or automate business processes and workflows
  • Ability to easily and quickly learn new programming languages
  • Adapts to and can learn new technologies, tasks, and processes


Preferred:

  • Prior experience with Business Process Management software
  • Experience Administering SQL servers
  • Knowledge of Source Code repositories/version control software, and generally accepted best practices in software development
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems with and understand interactions between Windows Servers, Workstations, Databases, Networks, Firewalls, and Applications
  • Prior experience with ticketing and task management systems
