Summary

The AI Workflow Automation Engineer will design, build, and deploy intelligent automation solutions that streamline business processes and improve operational efficiency. Working directly with business stakeholders, this individual contributor will gather requirements, translate them into technical designs, and implement scalable automations using low-code/no-code platforms and modern AI technologies.

 

This role requires a blend of technical skill, business understanding, and creativity. The Automation Engineer will leverage tools such as Power Automate, UIPath, Zapier, and n8n.io, as well as explore emerging AI capabilities—like vision models and agentic UI control—to deliver robust, enterprise-grade solutions. The incumbent will play a critical role in driving automation adoption, improving productivity, and delivering measurable business outcomes.

Duties and Responsibilities

  •  Business Collaboration: Partner directly with business teams to understand workflows, document requirements, and identify automation opportunities with clear ROI.
  • Solution Design & Development: Architect, build, and deploy automation solutions using low-code/no-code and RPA platforms (e.g., Power Automate, UIPath, Zapier, n8n.io).
  • AI Integration: Incorporate advanced AI capabilities—such as document understanding, vision models, and intelligent agents—to enhance automation performance and accuracy.
  • Lifecycle Management: Manage end-to-end automation delivery, including requirements gathering, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Process Optimization: Analyze existing processes, identify inefficiencies, and propose improvements that can be enabled through automation.
  • Governance & Compliance: Adhere to enterprise standards, IT security policies, and governance frameworks to ensure reliable and compliant automation delivery.
  • Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Maintain technical documentation, user guides, and handover materials to support operational sustainability.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay current with new automation tools and AI advancements; prototype and pilot emerging technologies to expand automation capabilities.

 

Salaries vary by location and are based on numerous factors, including, but not limited to, the relevant market, skills, experience, and education of the selected candidate. If an estimated salary range for this role is available, it will be provided in our Target Salary Range section. Target Salary Range

$150,000 - $175,000 if located in Illinois

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience: 

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience designing and developing workflow automations or RPA solutions.
  • Proficiency with one or more automation platforms (Power Automate, UIPath, Zapier, n8n.io).
  • Strong understanding of process analysis, business logic design, and integration principles (APIs, webhooks, data connectors).
  • Experience gathering requirements and delivering solutions directly to business clients or internal stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts in simple business terms.

Preferred:

  • Experience with AI-enhanced automation (e.g., OCR, NLP, or agent-based orchestration).
  • Certifications in leading automation platforms (e.g., UIPath Certified Developer, Power Platform Certification).
  • Background in professional services or enterprise environments.
  • Familiarity with Agile delivery methods and collaboration tools.
