Senior DevOps Engineer

Summary

We’re seeking an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer to strengthen our cloud platform engineering team. You’ll design, build, and automate highly available data & analytics workloads on Microsoft Azure with a heavy emphasis on Databricks. You’ll partner with architects, data engineers, software developers, and product owners to deliver resilient pipelines, airtight security, and continuous delivery at scale.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Architect and automate Azure environments with Infrastructure-as-Code (Bicep, ARM, Terraform).
  • Design, deploy, and optimize Azure Databricks workspaces, clusters, and jobs using IaC and Databricks Asset Bundles.
  • Own Git strategy and CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub): branching standards, PR automation, and release orchestration.
  • Partner with data-engineering and platform teams to run fully isolated dev, staging, and production environments.
  • Develop reusable, modular IaC templates for consistent, reliable deployments across all tiers.
  • Embed automated testing and monitoring in every pipeline to ensure resilient, high-performance systems.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to streamline deployments and boost reliability through automation.
  • Champion DevOps culture: automated testing, shift-left security, trunk-based development, post-mortems.
  • Audit and improve tooling, processes, and infrastructure management practices on an ongoing basis.

Salaries vary by location and are based on numerous factors, including, but not limited to, the relevant market, skills, experience, and education of the selected candidate. Target Salary Range

$160,000 - $175,000 if located in Illinois

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience: 

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field
  • An automate-first, everything-as-code mindset
  • A minimum of 8 years of hands-on DevOps / cloud infrastructure / systems-engineering experience
  • A minimum of 3 years architecting and operating Databricks solutions
  • Multi-cloud background (Azure preferred; experience with AWS or GCP a plus)
  • Deep grasp of data-engineering best practices: version control, CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, and alerting
  • Advanced Infrastructure-as-Code skills in ARM, Bicep, and/or Terraform for Azure services
  • Proficient scripting in PowerShell, Python, or Bash
  • Adept at producing detailed architecture diagrams and technical documentation
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities with meticulous attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills; proven collaborator with both technical and business stakeholders

Preferred:

  • Solid understanding of security best practices in Azure, including secrets management, identity & access control, and policy enforcement.
  • Experience with SRE, DR and maximizing uptime & availability
  • Experience migrating to—or building—data platforms from the ground up
  • Experience building pipelines for Governance Automation / Governance as Code
  • Experience working in an Agile delivery model
