Summary

The Quality Assurance (QA) Lead is a hands-on technical role responsible for independently designing and executing comprehensive quality assurance strategies. This includes crafting detailed test plans and test cases from requirements, and building robust automation frameworks to support functional, regression, and performance testing. The ideal candidate will have strong scripting skills and deep experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps and Playwright. This role is essential in embedding quality throughout the development lifecycle and ensuring fast, reliable, and secure software releases.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and execute comprehensive test plans and test cases directly from business and technical requirements.
  • Develop and maintain automation frameworks supporting functional, regression, load, and performance testing.
  • Build and automate test scripts using Playwright and integrate them seamlessly into Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines.
  • Collaborate with product, development, and DevOps teams to define testing goals, acceptance criteria, and release standards.
  • Own the QA process end-to-end, ensuring thorough coverage and consistent execution across all stages of development.
  • Define and track key quality metrics to measure test effectiveness and product stability.
  • Investigate and resolve test failures through root-cause analysis and coordination with developers.
  • Maintain clear and detailed test documentation, including test plans, test cases, automation logic, and defect reports.
  • Continuously evaluate and implement new tools and methodologies to enhance QA practices and automation efficiency.
  • Promote a proactive, quality-first approach to development by embedding testing early in the software lifecycle.

Salaries vary by location and are based on numerous factors, including, but not limited to, the relevant market, skills, experience, and education of the selected candidate. If an estimated salary range for this role is available, it will be provided in our Target Salary Range section. Target Salary Range

$148,000 - $164,000 if located in Illinois

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in software QA and test automation.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently develop test plans, cases, and automation strategies from the ground up.
  • A minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience with Playwright and Azure DevOps.
  • Strong scripting skills (JavaScript, TypeScript, or Python preferred).
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD processes and best practices in test automation integration.
  • Experience with other testing tools such as Selenium, Cypress, JMeter, or LoadRunner.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Certifications in QA or automation (e.g., ISTQB, CSTE).
  • Experience in professional services environments (e.g., legal, financial, consulting).
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
  • Awareness of QA considerations in security and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience using AI tools to streamline QA processes, such as generating test cases or automating Playwright test creation and execution.
