Practice Group Manager - Litigation

Summary

In this role, the Practice Group Manager will be responsible for planning and executing Global Litigation Practice Group (GPG) meetings (monthly and quarterly) and various litigation leadership meetings, in particular the Annual Partner Meeting Litigation session. They will identify and highlight best practices emerging from Practice Area Teams (PATs) to inform and elevate group-wide initiatives. The Practice Group Manager will manage and facilitate cross-office staffing and training (in conjunction with L&D and KM) to optimize resource allocation and collaboration, while actively tracking associate availability, productivity and performance to ensure appropriate administrative resources are deployed to support individuals.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review and monitor associate productivity across the GPG and liaise with Litigation office leadership to improve opportunities for cross-staffing and maximize associate opportunities and experience.
  • Develop content, identify speakers, and create materials for internal Litigation GPG meetings.
  • Coordinate with Marketing, KM and Revenue Management Litigation leads when needed to provide a holistic view the Litigation practice for GPLs.
  • Work with administrative support and Firmwide Events for internal and external
  • Communicate with Litigation leadership and lawyers regarding budgets and advance
  • Monitor time entry reporting and address issues through personal follow-ups and escalations to PAT and GPL leaders as needed.
  • Work with Partners and Legal Recruiting team to define and meet hiring needs of the practice group and to coordinate lateral hiring and onboarding (including returning judicial clerks).
  • Ensure completeness of associate evaluations and reviews, if appropriate, attend reviews to ensure consistent GPG messaging.
  • Monitor partner participation in associate training and development and associate participation in training with L&D and report opportunities for improvement to the GPG.
  • Work with Litigation leadership to develop a potential partner and counsel promotion candidate list, partner and counsel candidate memos, and candidate business plans

Salaries vary by location and are based on numerous factors, including, but not limited to, the relevant market, skills, experience, and education of the selected candidate. If an estimated salary range for this role is available, it will be provided in our Target Salary Range section. Target Salary Range

$185,000 to $260,000 if located in Illinois, New York, Washington D.C., or California

Education and/or Experience: 

Required:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) and a minimum of four years practice experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Resource Management/Scheduling Tools, and other related applications.
  • Strong presence in the face of complexity and time-constrained challenges.
  • Proficient at negotiating and managing conflict.
  • Proven client service focus, with an ability to resolve issues quickly and a sense of urgency.
  • Flexible in adapting to constantly changing priorities.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience in staffing, professional development or practice support.
