Summary

The Manager of Pricing leads a team of analyst(s) and/or senior analyst(s) that are responsible for the development and delivery of pricing proposals and financial analysis in support of the firm’s pricing strategy. The Manager of Pricing supports pricing leadership who are charged with the development and execution of the Firm’s overall pricing strategy in collaboration with Firm leadership. The Manager of Pricing works closely with our partners to prepare pricing proposals, develop narrative content and support negotiations.  The ideal candidate  will be a leader who balances analytical skills with strategic guidance, excellent communication and knowledge of pricing and the revenue cycle. The Manager of Pricing is expected to operate both strategically and tactically, leveraging their strong management and leadership skills to coach a high-performing, efficient, and forward-looking team that delivers measurable results for the firm.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the development of Pricing proposals, including financial modeling, realization analysis, and structuring of hourly and alternative fee arrangements.
  • Work with partners to translate client and/or matter details and assumptions into pricing models and client proposals.
  • Collaborate with the Business Development team in supporting partners with responding to Requests for Proposals (RFPs), pitches and other client proposals.
  • Liaise with client legal operations teams on pricing negotiations, as appropriate.
  • Develop tools and processes to leverage historical matter and client data to enable analysis and support for global practice groups and Firm leadership.
  • Support the execution of the firm’s annual billing rate strategy by reviewing benchmarking data, timelines, and communication with pricing leadership.
  • Analyze historical matter data and performance trends to inform proposal development and identify relevant pricing benchmarks.
  • Conduct analyses by geography, practice area, industry, etc. to assist with the annual rate review process, client renewal processes or in response to management inquiries.
  • Supervise and review the work of analysts and senior analysts to ensure timely and accurate deliverables.
  • Act as key resource on select clients requiring ongoing significant financial support and matter management, both internally and externally.
  • Assist in identifying process improvements an operational efficiencies in pricing workflows and tools.
  • Develop and deliver reporting to monitor and evaluate performance against agreed-upon terms, supporting renegotiations and ensuring alignment with strategic and financial objectives established as part of the approval process.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of training materials, templates, and documentation to drive consistency and knowledge sharing within the team.
  • Act as key resource on select clients requiring ongoing significant financial support and matter management, both internally and externally.
  • Keep informed regarding pricing and engagement arrangement tools and trends within the legal profession.
  • Promote high levels of service throughout group; ensure service standards are set and achieved by team; provide coaching and mentoring to staff to ensure a high-level of service is accomplished individually and through teamwork.

Salaries vary by location and are based on numerous factors, including, but not limited to, the relevant market, skills, experience, and education of the selected candidate. Target Salary Range

$140,000 - $175,000 if located in Illinois

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience: 

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Accounting or Finance.
  • A minimum of 8 years of accounting and financial analysis experience.
  • Advanced capabilities and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and PowerPoint is required. Experience with Sharepoint, 3E, NetDocs, data presentation software and SQL is a plus.
  • A minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience with demonstrated ability to train and mentor staff.
  • Project management experience with the ability to efficiently and effectively complete projects.
  • Must be well organized with strong attention to detail and good business judgment, capable of handling sensitive information with appropriate discretion.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience working in a legal pricing function, particularly at a large law firm, strongly preferred.
